Nvidia CUDA query

Post by bloort » Sun Oct 11, 2009 10:02 pm

I hope this is in the right place.

Jorden mentioned in his " Nvidia CUDA & ATI Stream" FAQ that sometimes explorer.exe uses up a lot of CPU cycles, and the cause is yet unknown. I might have lucked out on a solution of sorts.

My machine is a Dell 9150, with intel chipset and a single nVidia 8800 GTX card. explorer.exe was slurping up a lot of cycles. My vid drivers were a bit old and confused, so i uninstalled the works and put on the latest greatest @ 191.07. (fan speed is controlled auto now, and the card under cuda load sits at about 82C). Since i was playing with fire, i also decided to try an update of the stock Dell Intel matrix driver, to the intel supplied Intel matrix Storage console 8.9. All seems to be running well, with the side effect that explorer.exe cpu usage while processing is now 0.

So i'm not sure which driver was the cure, but i'm leaning towards the intel.

Hi,

Welcome to the forums.

I have made your post a separate topic in its own right as it did not belong in the previous topic.

Cheers,

Neil.

With thanks, I have adapted that into the FAQ.
