Additional languages

Post by Ageless » Tue May 06, 2008 11:55 pm

Hi Neil,

I am on the look out for people who can write Spanish and French for the BOINC FAQs.
Already asking a couple of people through PM if they are interested in any way. Could you add the languages to the BFS already, please?

@everyone, if you're interested, let us know. Either through here, or through PM or email.

With thanks,

Neil

Hi Zelvuska,

Sounds good to me.

I have added the Czech language to the FAQ.

Would you like me to set-up an account for you?

Cheers,

Neil.

Thanks for that account!
Checked, logged and tried. But I see a very big problem here. That problem is encoding. Your page is encoded in ISO-8859-1 but there aren't all czech characters in that charset :(
I don't know anything about creating webs but I believe that the best choice will be UTF-8 charset (Boincstats converted to it and everything is working). But I don't know how to do it without ruining anyones work? Maybe encode only Czech section in it?
Thanks!

I set my browser to use UTF-8 and it didn't seem to break any of the other languages.
I think you can try it, Neil.

Hi all,

I have modified the web pages to use UTF-8 encoding and the database to use UTF-8 Unicode "general" encoding which should cover most languages.

The conversion may have affected some special characters - please can translators check their entries to see if they have been affected.

Apologies for any inconvenience,

Neil.

p.s. I do have a back-up of the database before the changes were made.

Hi,

Not your fault - the problem is that the data was submitted in ISO-8859-1 format for the German, Spanish etc. which means it gets messed up when it is displayed in UTF-8 format.

I hoped that converting the MySQL fields etc. would have done the conversions for me, but alas this is not the case.

Please can you hold off translating any Czech FAQs for now as I need to find a way of converting the ISO-8859-1 entries to UTF-8 so everything works together.

Apologies for any inconvenience,

Neil.
