Hi all,

Tonight I have updated the forum to the latest version of phpBB 3. The forum was offline for a few hours whilst I performed the migration and checked things out.

The new version offers loads of new features (too many to mention here).

I have kept a copy of the old form database and code should I need to revert to it for any reason.

I hope you like the new forum,

Enjoy,

Neil.

Looks good Neil. This is the first forum I've been on that's using phpBB 3.

Thanks - the admin panel is certainly a lot better in this version!

It's looking nice.........was a bit of a surprise which I loaded the page.

Any way of removing the phpBB logo or are you still wading through the admin panel.

I've helping develop sql free forum software which is pretty interesting. I'll have to take notes about features to include.

Yeah, I have thought about removing the logo, but it would be good to have something to replace it with... perhaps another ad ;-)

With phpBB, the themes are defined using CSS in its own file with HTML templates and image packs. So to add the adverts I just modified the overall_header.html template to include the adverts. It's here that the logo is defined as well, so I can easily remove it. This is another great feature of phpBB - there are loads of themes to choose from, and it's dead simple to customise them or even make your own!

I remember the days of coding my own forum for MundayWeb.co.uk (before I got the .com domain as well). It used to have a text file based forum, which I then re-vamped to include user accounts and some phpBB features.

I still have the code and the data files for the forums for nostalgia reasons :-)

In the end I decided to take the leap to phpBB as it has way more features and it works very well, and it became a pain maintaining the data files - it was screaming out for SQL!

phpBB 3 offers many new features, including being able to upload attachments, but I have disabled this for now as any registered user could potentially upload whatever they want to my web server and I'm not so sure I want this to happen, especially when file space is at a premium.

Good luck with your forum,

Neil.

How about a MundayWeb BOINC Logo to go where the phpBB logo is?

Paging Cori. Oh Cori. Please report to Neil's site!
