Zivis Citizen Supercomputer

Post by Krunchin-Keith »

http://zivis.bifi.unizar.es/

Sponsered be CIEMAT National Labratory of Fusion and Institute of Biocomputing and Physics of Complex Systems (BiFi) at University of Zaragosa in City of Zaragosa Spain.

Searching for cleaner energy.

Most information is in Spanish but Google translation does well. There is no boinc message board but the link to the city information page gives good information and a BLOG.

It was meant to be a local project with a contest for the locals, but due to BOINC's popularity and 'search engines' we BOINCers found out about it and can participate, but not for the prizes, only cobblestones and we are welcome to participate.

Stats are being considered for export.

Additional information can be read on BOINCstats forum which includes some more welcome information.

eMail from Zivis

Post by Krunchin-Keith »

I got an email from Zivis, In mostly Spanish so I Goggle translated it.

Here it is, some parts pertain only to the local, but it does pertain to all of BOINC and if you have not joined this project or did not know how to translate the email here it is:

Considered usuary of Zivis: Not yet they have spent ten days since it took the project and already we are more than 1500 registered users (2200 computers) who have contributed near 70,000 hours of CPU, doing of ZIVIS a powerful platform of calculation to the service of the investigation in our city. Having seen that the minimum objectives could be reached fully that the scientific equipment had fixed, we have increased to the precision of the calculations of the application pilot of the project, and they are going away to continue sending calculations of fusion to remove to the maximum benefit from the infrastructure and power to obtain therefore formidable scientific results. By all means we must also thank for the participation notable of people of outside our city. This success had not been possible without all you, so, in the first place, thank you very much to all in name of the science and the equipment of ZIVIS.

We took advantage of this first mail for contaros that today the period has begun to choose to the prizes of the aid. Like introduction, we indicated to you that it exists an individual modality and another collective one, being possible to participate in both. In the individual modality a category has been introduced in which it becomes emphasis in the total time that a computer has been working for ZIVIS and another one in which the productivity of the personal machines looks for. In the collective categories emphasis in the total contribution to the project becomes of all the connected machines. By all means, an individual user can have several machines connected to the project, but at the time of scoring the one of better yield for the individual category will be selected and all for the category of groups were added. The bases of the aid are in http://cmisapp.zaragoza.es/contenidos/c ... ncurso.pdf and the prizes of the individual categories in http://zivis.bifi.unizar.es/premios.html

Taking advantage of the starting the aid, it is possible that you can be interested in fitting your personal data such as names, last names (necessary for the individual modality) and organization of property (necessary for the collective modality). It remembers that these data are those that take shelter during the process of registry (http://cmisapp.zaragoza.es/ciudad/conoc ... cargar.htm) and which always you will be able to modify introducing he himself email and password (it is not necessary to return to unload and to install the ZIVIS software, but to arrive until the fourth passage of the registry).

If you wish it, now also you can complete your personal information indicating your location on a new graphical box in the third passage of the registry, in which you can give your location approximated on a map of the city (although it is possible to visualize any part of the world). The map with all the locations is public, and Location can be consulted in the section >> Statistical/.

It is possible also that it interests to fit to other preferences more outposts to you, as the use of bandwidth and of power of calculation that you authorize to ZIVIS. Those data adjust in the section of user of the call “project page”, http://zivis.bifi.unizar.es/, to which also can accede pressing on a button of client BOINC.

Finally, we want to call your attention on the turn of conferences that will be developed during next the three weeks, and that will turn so much on computer science subjects as on the scientific application that at the moment this calculating project ZIVIS. The schedules of these char them estan available in the URL http://cmisapp.zaragoza.es/ciudad/conoc ... ventos.htm

It receives a warm greeting, The ZIVIS equipment

PS: To few words for non-Spanish participants. Initial During this phase, the Zivis project there are to local emphasis centered around the City of Zaragoza and its University but, of course, it is open to everybody! We plows very happy with your remarkable involvement in the project and would like to thank all of you for your important contribution to the research in fusion shapes physics. For Thank you everybody your support! To opt out of future emails from Zivis, please edit your project preferences AT http://zivis.bifi.unizar.es/prefs.php?subset=project

From Alexander Rivero:
Hello,

I have activated db_dump and there is green light for international use.

A Caveat is that we have not calibrated the credits so we are using it as in the classical deploy I guess. We could recalibrate after the end of our contest, say by May 15, if our crunching continues with the same set of applications. Meanwhile, I think you should consider us as a beta deploy.

If you notice some problem with the export of stats, tell me directly via gmail, user al.rivero.
And they have a skin, Download: http://zivis.bifi.unizar.es/misc/plugins/zivis_skin.zip
